We’ve got no booked gigs for this summer. Let’s see if we can come up with something new in autumn.

  • 05.06.2010

We’ve been practising some new songs we gonna play tonight at Bar Cafe Luna in Vantaa. A place we’ve never been to before. And actually a city we’ve never played in before. Go Vantaa go. Is it really a rock’n’roll city? Is it really a city at all or just a suburb of Helsinki? Olavi used to spend summer holidays there when he was a kid, but he was actually in Mellunmäki which is in Helsinki but right next to Vantaa.

  • 22.02.2010

New gigs coming up during the spring. We found some video material from the archives about recording “A Strange Revelation”. Now it’s edited and you can watch edisode 1/4 here. It’s with english subtitles.

  • 07.01.2010

It’s a new year. We’ve put some new (old) songs to our MySpace site. There’s some stuff from sold-out/out-of-print “Like a Light Bulb” plus also some new songs from “A Strange Revelation”. So check it out if you don’t own the records. We’ll also play next saturday at Wäiski in Helsinki. There’s a whole bunch of cool strange bands so the 2-day festival is worth visiting, I guess. See you there.

  • 04.12.2009

Last friday we head to Turku to play some music with the fellows of Sydän, Sydän and Pahat Agentit. I have to say it was great. Quite a lot of people showed up and seemed to enjoy themselves. And so did we. Then on saturday we head to Helsinki to play with Pahat Agentit again. The place was Lepakkomies. During the sound check T.T noticed that he’d left his cymbals in Turku but Ema borrowed his to this drum god of Kometa. Maybe it would’ve been better without the cymbals because Olavi’s and Jari’s ears rang quite a bit afterwards. Should they use ear plugs? Maybe, I don’t know.

This year there won’t probably be more Kometa gigs, but next year definately, starting at Wäiski on January 9th.

  • 26.11.2009

    Hello Again!

Tomorrow is the great day when YOU can see us playing live. And the day after tomorrow! We have polished our istruments so that YOU can enjoy at the maximum level. YOU are welcome to come to Klubi in Turku on friday and we wish to see YOU also at Lepakkomies (Batman) in Helsinki. Cool!

  • 05.10.2009

Hola! The trip to Lahti started with excited feelings because the charger belt in our Ford Transit was quite loose. Somehow guys got it fixed so we could leave to Lahti only half an hour late. But the belt that drives the band wasn’t loose at all. Gig was very good indeed. Some video material was also shot, let’s see if we get it online soon.

  • 02.10.2009

Anyone up for a good Kometa show tonight? Well then you should consider taking a trip to Lahti. We’ll be there at Torvi doing our stuff. Everyone knows Torvi, don’t you? Well then see You there. Showtime around midnight I guess…

  • 15.08.2009

Because we were asked and we wanted to we’re playing an extra gig at On the Rocks in Helsinki next tuesday (18.8). Free entrance! Spread the word.
The other band is Dasputnik from Turku.

    SHOWTIMES :

    22:30 KOMETA
    23:45 DASPUTNIK

  • 03.08.2009

Thanks for everyone who came to see us at Faces festival. It was great! No more gigs this summer but as you can see, we got some gigs in Autumn. We’ll be playing two nights together with a great organ punk band Pahat Agentit, (in which 2/3 of the members played in legendary group HC Andersen) They don’t do gigs often, so don’t miss it! Olavi’s been working on some new material and the band is about to put the pieces together in the near future. And this can only mean one thing, a new album. But that’ll be another story…

  • 30.07.2009

Guten tag! Kometa will be playing tomorrow (friday) at Faces festival. The venue is Verstas (it’s the rock stage of the festival) and we’ll start at 22 pm. Willkommen.

  • 09.07.2009

Kometa will play at club Liberte in Helsinki next thursday (16.7) with Kap Kap. Tickets 5e + cloak fee.

  • 08.06.2009

Last saturday Kometa played in Rauma, Klustermus. The gig consisted of ten songs (and some dramatic unforgettable moments of entertainment history):
    1. The Lesser of Two Evils
    2. In a Limo
    3. Sweet Heat
(The bass broke down for some mysterious reason and somebody lent us one)
    4. Now you got it all wrong
    5. Holy Spirit
    6. She Told Me So
    7. Eye an Aberona
(Olavi climbed into the light truss and almost got stuck)
    8. Quit
    9. Jet Pack
    10. With a Twist of Lemon

After the show, Jari and Timo rushed off back to Helsinki and Olavi and the Kometa staff went for a hunt to find the shack they were supposed to sleep in. After a nice afterparty the night was over. Thanks to Klustermus people, we had a really nice time.

  • 04.06.2009

The summer has arrived though it seems to be raining at the moment. On saturday we’ll be heading to Rauma and the infamous Klustermus festival. We were there last summer and it was kind of fun. We’ll play after seven pm on the main stage. The festival is FREE with a lot of interesting bands and artists and good atmosphere so it’s absolutely worth visiting. I wonder what we’re gonna play there…it’ll figure out soon, I guess. The pressing of “Like a Light Bulb” is totally sold-out now. BV2 Produktions has something like 4 copies of it left. So if you got it, keep it safe, it’s a true rarity now.

We haven’t been doing much gigs lately and actually we haven’t been doing much anything within the band, but damn it’s gonna change. During the summer I’m gonna take some time to write some new material and we’ll get back to it in Autumn. Some gigs are coming up also, and we’ll let you know when it’s the right time.
    See you!

    Terveisin
    – Olavi V.

  • 27.04.2009

Klustermus festival is soon and you can see us there!
Also last thursday was fun. We played at Henry’s Pub in the middle of Helsinki. Very good ätmös indeed.

  • 23.04.2009

Last saturday we had a private gig at Wäiski at our friend’s birthday party. And tonight we’ll be playing at Henry’s Pub, Helsinki. FREE ENTRANCE ! A band called Shotgun Club starts at 22, and Kometa at 23. See you there.

  • 09.04.2009

It was fun at Liberte! See for yourself

  • 13.03.2009

Kometa was in Turku yesterday. We drove the new motor way and it was very exciting. In Turku we find the venue easily because we have been there many times before. We soundchecked but we were a bit confused because we didn’t know if we could eat the sandwiches upstairs or were they all for Samae Koskinen who was performing there. The previous times the sandwiches have been for downstairs’ artists also. Well we survived anyway without the sandwiches. The gig started with “Since I Was Born” and ended in “With a Twist Of Lemon” and in the middle we played a dozen of other songs. Thanks for the guy who held Olavi’s guitar cable during his performance on a table. Tonight Helsinki and Liberte Club, see you there!

  • 10.03.2009

Kometa has been rehearsing. Olavi has got some new riffs and the boys have been checking them out. This morning at 11 o’clock the miraculous trio met at their rehearsal place located in Helsinki. Jari was early, very unusual to him, and he’d made some coffee. The group drank some and started to jam. They always jam a little in the beginning of the rehearsals. Then they tried a new song that’s been around for a while. It didn’t sound that good so they had to ignore it and Olavi seemed to get a little pissed. But soon he lightened up. Then they tried some other new tunes and a few of them are really good, some others just “quite good”. They played for 2 and half hours and left. They’ll be back tomorrow and hopefully let me out of here. -J.Smith, the manager.

  • 19.02.2009

We’re tuning up for our forthcoming gigs next month. Let’s see what we come up with. Over and out.

  • 05.02.2009

Last weekend we rocked at Pub Norris, Karjaa and Lepakkomies, Helsinki. Played some new songs plus some really old. I didn’t brake any strings and T.T. Kinnunen didn’t poke his eyes, thank god. Jari Laakkonen played couple of good bass solos in middle of songs and didn’t sing, as usual. Read more from our MySpace blog. Sorry for the bad english, My back hurts and I’m full of medication and can’t think straight. Yours -OV

We’ve had some kind of holiday for a while and now we’re back! We’ve been writing new songs and now it looks like something’s coming up. We had some new tunes in the end of last year but actually they were pretty bad so we had to throw them in a dust bin. Now we’re making better ones, but it takes time. So be patient. We might play some new songs on our forthcoming gigs (see updates from gig-section). We’re gonna have a small tour with Molly Grows Up, they’re from Turku, and we’ll play in Turku (the old capital of Finland) and Helsinki (the capital of Finland). Record labels have this huge campaign of selling records for almost nothing in January, so go and buy some records, music is good for your soul and that way you won’t end up frizzling in hell. See you!

It was fun to play at Nosturi last saturday. At the time we started at 22 pm, the place was surprisingly crowded and we even heard people shouting our name. We were expecting that everyone had come to see the main band, Kotiteollisuus and wouldn’t care much of our stuff. But we were wrong, I suppose. During the 40 mins we played, I managed to brake 2 guitar cables, and I lost the sound of the guitar once or twice. But what the heck, we enjoyed a lot and for us it seemed that audience enjoyed too. I saw a guy waving his fist in the back row of the balcony and shouting “yeaaaahhhh”. We also gave an interviw to some “soffa.tv” and they also shot our gig. I don’t know when it’s out but we’ll let you know if they tell us. It was really good evening to celebrate our 200th gig. Thanks to everyone involved.

  • 29.11.2008

Tonight we’ll be supporting Kotiteollisuus at Nosturi. Our showtime at 22 pm. Come and celebrate our 200th gig ever. And by the way, our 100th gig was in Zittau, Germany in a club called Emil. That’s not very important but I wrote it anyway.

  • 24.11.2008

    20.11 Jyväskylä, Red Neck

We left Helsinki at 3 pm. T.T, Olavi and Jasse travelled together and Jari had to come later by train. We arrived at 7 pm as planned even though the weather was quite horrible. We’ve never played in Red Neck before, the backstage was located in Mummon pullapuoti, the best-smelling bacstage we’ve been into. We soundchecked, then we ate. Jari came by train at 21.30 and at 23 we started to make some noise. It was a thursday night so people we’re propably at home sleeping or something but we had an audience that was not-so-big-but-enthusiastic. It was a good gig. After that we partied a little, took some pics and head to our hotel downtown to party a little bit more.

    22.11. Seinäjoki, Bar 15

With a little help from our friend Go-start! we got our diesel engine running. It’s miraculous stuff. Before we left Jyväskylä we went to a local Levykauppa-X to buy some records. There’s this campaign till the end of the year in whole country that you can buy “A Strange Revelation” for 10 euros! If you buy 2 discs of the campaign, it’s only 15! That’s cheap so buy the damn record now if you don’t have it yet.

Bar 15 is one of our favourite places to play and it didn’t dissapoint us this time either. We had fun. We even played “a Horse Called Silver”, an old song that we’ve never recorded, maybe it will end up to our next album, who knows. Jari had to leave right after the gig but the rest of the crew stayed for the night. We had a room in “Sukellusvene” in Rytmikorjaamo for the night and we had a nice afterparty there.

Thanks for everyone who came to the shows!

btw our next gig in Nosturi is our 200th ever!

  • 19.11.2008

    Touring is never boring.

Tomorrow we head north towards Jyväskylä. We got our winter tyres on so we don’t have to worry if it snows. Then on friday we go to Seinäjoki and that’s almost Lapland. Well maybe not. But remember people- we’re coming to your city so you don’t have to come to our’s. It’s a favour to you. So do us a favour back and come see us doing what we do best – rock! It’s from us to you – with love!

  • 14.11.2008

Hello! Thanks for evryone who came to Torvi last wednesday. Here’s how it went. It’s only a one-hour trip to Lahti so we began our trip at seven o’clock leaving from our rehearsal place. Jasse, our sound guy, came and off we went. Ten after eight we parked our van in front of Torvi. I drank a cup of coffee then. We did a soundcheck which usually takes something like hour. The monitoring in Torvi is not so good so I had a small problems with hearing the vocals but I got by (during the gig the I completely lost vocal monitoring a dozen of times). After soundcheck Jasse was a bit hungry so we went to eat something small. Jari ate meat balls and Jasse ate cabbage box. I drank a beer. Then we walked to Torvi and on our way we saw a 20-meter queue, unfortunately for us, it was in front of a game shop instead of Torvi, as people were waiting the doors to open to buy this new game, which name I don’t even remember. In front of the club was no queue. At 12 p.m. we started our gig. We started with “Since I was born”, after that we played “She told me so” and after that…I don’t remember, it was just endless adrenaline-filled trip of sweat, sweet music and playing. Good and rough. We played maybe for an hour. People insisted us to play more, so we played more. After one hour fifteen minutes it was over. Kometa had left the building.

  • 31.10.2008

Awesome! That’s what it was yesterday to play at Liberte. Before the gig I was really really nervous for some reason but as we started to play everything felt into place. We played some new songs, but mostly old ones and things got really hot! It was sweaty, raw, rocking and beatiful gig at least from our point of view. Sydän, sydän also rocked and shocked as usual. Very good evening indeed. Thanks. -OV

  • 29.08.2008

Some new gigs updated. There’s gonna be an evening with our record label mates Sydän, sydän next month in Liberte. Also a jazzy & groovy evening with our record label mates Kotiteollisuus will take place in Nosturi in November. Yesterday’s gig at Kuudes Linja was quite nice and we ended up playing one new song even though just before the gig we decided not to play any until it’s the right time, which means way ahead in the future. But what can you do when you got into the flow. Probably the right time was yesterday because to play the new piece felt very much okay and somewhere in the middle of “How to wear things” Olavi ended up inside a dusty old carpet and fell off the stage. And Anssi 8000 & Maria Stereo rocked very much. Very good. Thank you.

  • 21.08.2008

Some new gigs added. We’re happy to tell you that next thursday we’ll be playing at Kuudes Linja with Anssi 8000 & Maria Stereo It’s a cool duo playing their bluesrockpunk with nice harmonies and a good garage-attitude, so it’s definitely worth checking out. Their new album is gonna be out soon by 22-pistepirkko’s Bone Voyage -label.
And Kometa will be playing around this autumn, check out gig updates every now and then.

A review of Provinssirock (just read patiently, they mention us) at mesta.net We had really good time there. One guitar got a little bit trashed but we played a tight 45 minute set. We we’re supposed to play for an hour but they didn’t let us play until some last-minute wedding ceremony was finished. It was weird. But where’s the next gig? We’ll let you know, don’t worry. Have a good summer, don’t burn your skin.
